چکیده مقاله:

This paper examines differences in performances of a range of torsionally stiff and flexible single story buildings designed with the provisions of Iranian Standard 2800. Seismic nonlinear dynamic time history behavior of eight building models subjected to seven horizontal bi-directional design spectra compatible ground motions are investigated. These models cover a wide range of very torsionally stiff to very flexible buildings. Response parameters are element ductility demand and building story drift ratio. These criteria are appropriate indices for structural and nonstructural damages, respectively. This investigation shows that the linear static analysis of building code such as Iranian Standard 2800 is not generally adequate for structures with very low torsional stiffness.

Seismic Performance of RC Frames Irregular in Elevation Designed Based on Iranian Seismic Code

Setback in elevation of a structure is a special irregularity with considerable effect on its seismic performance. This paper addresses multistory Reinforced Concrete (RC) frame buildings, regular and irregular in elevation. Several multistory Reinforced Concrete Moment Resisting Frames (RCMRFs) with different types of setbacks, as well as the regular frames in elevation, are designed according...

Seismic fragility assessment of RC moment resisting frame buildings designed for different editions of Iranian seismic design code

Background and objective: Developing fragility and vulnerability functions are important tools in seismic reliability assessment of buildings and are widely used in regional seismic risk studies. To date sufficient studies for developing analytical fragility functions for Iranian code-conforming buildings have not been carried out. Performing such studies are necessary to assess the adequacy of...

SEISMIC ENERGY DEMANDS OF INELASTIC BUILDINGS DESIGNED WITH OPTIMUM DISPLACEMENT-BASED APPROACH

In present study, the effects of optimization on seismic energy spectra including input energy, damping energy and yielding hysteretic energy are parametrically discussed. To this end, 12 generic steel moment-resisting frames having fundamental periods ranging from 0.3 to 3s are optimized by using uniform damage and deformation approaches subjected to a series of 40 non-pule strong ground motio...

Seismic Design of Multi-story Buildings with Metallic Structural Fuses

Seismic design relies on inelastic deformations through hysteretic behavior. However, this translates into damage on structural elements, permanent system deformations following an earthquake, and possibly high cost for repairs. An alternative design approach is to concentrate damage on disposable and easy to repair structural elements (i.e., “structural fuses”), while the main structure is des...
